Vision

Horton Kirby Church of England Primary School will provide a high-quality Religious education curriculum that recognises and reflect all pupils’ beliefs and practices. Our curriculum is designed to reflect the guidance of the Kent Agreed syllabus. We aim to ensure that every pupil succeeds and develops a greater understanding of Religious Education and religious beliefs. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become more reflective of Spiritual, Moral and Cultural beliefs. Opportunities to celebrate a particular faith will aim to build greater empathy and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.

Aims

Our curriculum will ensure that all pupils:

  • Develop a greater knowledge and understanding of major world religions.
  • An awareness of religious practices and acts of worship.
  • look beyond themselves, make relevant links to their own experiences and reflect on their own personal beliefs, traditions and values
  • Have an understanding of how are school values are reflected in religion.

 

Intent

At Horton Kirby Church of England Primary School, our RE curriculum enables children to develop their own identity, enrich their sense of belonging and connection to the local and global community.

Pupils develop knowledge and understanding of the world’s faiths and beliefs, look beyond themselves, make relevant links to their own experiences and reflect on their own personal beliefs, traditions and values. They experience places of worship and religious figures. Our school values (Respect, Resilience, Responsibility and Reflection) are reflected in the RE planning and that all pupils are treated equally.

 

Implementation

Our RE curriculum is delivered using the Understanding Christianity scheme of work and recommended schemes through the Kent Agreed Syllabus.

Pupils study the main world religions; Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hinduism. The scheme of work focuses on learning about religion and learning from religion.

RE lessons take the form of discussions and debates, reflection and recording of knowledge, thoughts and views.

Pupils learn stories from the Bible and other Faiths. 

They also acquire knowledge of special places, practices, festivals and the role of key figures.

Our SEND pupils are supported through our RE curriculum.

They will be extended the opportunity to visit places of worship.

Parents have the right to withdraw their child from RE lessons. This request must be made in writing to the Head teacher.  Parents are strongly advised to consult with the school to seek further information on the RE curriculum and the approach to teaching and learning before any decision is made.

Impact

At Horton Kirby Church of England Primary School, pupils will

  • Enjoying learning about other religions and why people choose, or choose not to follow a religion.
  • Make links between their own lives and those of others in their community and in the wider world.
  • E. acts as a hub between social aspects of learning, science and geography.
  • Developing an understanding of other people’s cultures and ways of life, which they are then able to communicate to the wider community.
  • Provided the means to understand how other people choose to live and to understand why they choose to live in that way.
