Our Bear Hunt Adventure Raises Over £2,400!
Horton Kirby Primary School recently came together for a truly special fundraising event in support of the incredible local charity ellenor. Inspired by the much-loved story We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, the day was filled with creativity, excitement, and a strong sense of community purpose.
In the lead-up to the event, pupils were visited by Lisa and Lou from ellenor, who shared powerful insights into the charity’s work. They spoke about how ellenor supports people living with serious illness, not only in their hospice, but also in homes, hospitals, and local communities.
This visit helped the children understand exactly who they were fundraising for and gave real meaning to their efforts.

Horton Kirby Transformed into a Bear Hunt Adventure
On Tuesday 28th April, Horton Kirby Primary was completely transformed into a “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” experience. Every year group took part in a wide range of themed activities, including:
- Pin the Tail on the Bear
- EYFS bear hunts and storytelling
- Outdoor obstacle courses
- Teddy bear picnics
- Den building and exploration
- Binocular making from recycled materials
- Musical storytelling and role play
- Bear-themed colouring and crafts
- Creative stop-motion animation projects
The whole school was buzzing with energy, imagination, and enthusiasm from start to finish.
Linking Creativity to the Ellenor Art Trail
The day also formed part of the school’s involvement in the ellenor Art Trail Project. Pupils’ creative work will be showcased across local areas including Dartford and Bluewater, helping to raise awareness of ellenor’s vital work while celebrating the children’s artistic achievements.

Raising Funds and Exceeding Expectations
Thanks to the incredible support of families, staff, and the wider school community, Horton Kirby Primary raised an amazing £2,464.41 – far exceeding their original £1,000 target.
The school was later delighted to welcome Lisa from ellenor back to present a celebratory cheque, recognising the huge impact of everyone’s efforts.

A Community Effort to Be Proud Of
The success of the day reflects the strength and kindness of the Horton Kirby community. Every donation, activity, and moment of participation contributed to supporting families who rely on ellenor’s care.
A huge thank you goes to everyone who took part and supported the event.
